Much of the attention about architecture and landscape design is focused on cities, where they call it urban design. However, we will focus on its rural applications, with the intent to conserve farmland and the countryside through historically inspired, compact places. Hamlets, villages and small towns–surrounded by farms, ranches, and parklands.
Here we will be collecting renderings and illustrations of noteworthy compact rural development designs:
Cities Skylines Community Renderings
The online platform Cities: Skylines hosts many expert city builders capable of creating realistic renderings of compact places in the countryside.
Driehaus Traditional Architecture Competition
Every year, the Driehaus Competition inspires people to create project renderings to “preserve and revive the use of local architectural and urban traditions” on the Iberian Peninsula.
Dennis R. Holloway, Architect
Dennis R. Holloway is a Southwestern Architect. He generates VR-based simulations of indigenous American architecture, analyzing the way ancient compact village ruins looked when they were new.
Starr Sanford Design
Starr Sanford Design advocates for compact development and the preservation of farmland and open space in rural areas.
